Peter Benfell has a background in public sector finance with past roles including Records Management Advisor to both the New Zealand Treasury and New Zealand Debt Management Office, and as Information Manager with the United Kingdom Debt Management Office. He has practical experience in paper and electronic record keeping, and in developing strategies for optimising records collections to meet business, evidential, and cultural needs. Between 2002 and 2005 he served on the Executive of the Association of Departmental Records Officers, an ex-officio group representing the interests of central government records managers. Holding masters degrees in Music (M.Mus., Victoria University of Wellington), and Records Management (M.Sc., Northumbria University), Peter has a strong academic interest in records and information management to support his hands-on experience and 'lateral thinking' approach to solving record keeping issues. Paul Sutcliffe is a consultant with over 25 years experience of the computer industry, and for the past 17 years he has specialised in the document management field. As technologies have evolved, this has involved working at the leading edge of relevant disciplines; document image processing, document management, content management, workflow, knowledge management, portal frameworks, collaborative commerce and 'intellectual capital management'. His prime focus is the business application of these technologies in streamlining and where possible eliminating the flow of paper within the organisation, thereby delivering greater productivity, improved customer service and competitive edge. As Office Automation Manager at South Eastern Gas, in 1984 he introduced some of the first imaging and voicemail systems in the UK, and spoke at conferences in both the UK and Europe on office systems topics. He subsequently joined Xionics, initially as Business Consultant, then Technical Services Manager and later as Product Marketing Manager. He spoke at numerous document management events and was on the Image Processing Suppliers Group Steering Committee. He also devised and launched ImageSolve, which grew into a successful UK imaging product and company. He has continued to work on re-engineering and document management projects, travelling extensively in Europe, the USA and the Far East. Ian Hunter is a hands-on IT project manager, specialising in business process management and workflow automation. For the past four years Ian has led the marketing and support teams at Alia Systems: implementing process automation applications at clients including Compass Group, Dell, Derwent Information, Hazell Carr, Lockheed Martin, OCR, and Unilever; using the Ultimus workflow suite and Alia's process automation software. He has 30 years experience in Information Technology, including requirements specification, systems procurement, development, project implementation, change management and user support. Alan Shipman is a Director and Principal Consultant for Group 5 Training Limited, the leading independent consortium of technical experts and consultants providing practical guidance on the implementation of Information Management Systems. He is an acknowledged industry expert in media/format conversion. Alan has been involved in Document Imaging Standards for over 20 years, specialising in user aspects. He is Chairman of the BSI Document Imaging Applications committee, and is convenor of the International Standards Organisation (ISO) Document Imaging Quality sub-committee. He is a member of the UKAIIM Standards Committee, having previously chaired the committee for over 5 years. He received the Master of Information Technology award from the Association of Information and Image Management International in 1998, and was awarded their Standards Excellence Award in 1999. Alan is a regular speaker at events organised by organisations and associations in the archives and records management, educational, engineering, heath care, financial, legal, local government and system supplier fields, as well as at national events such as the Document Management Roadshows and the annual Document shows.
