The European Commission’s MoReq " Model Requirement for the Management of Electronic Records" published in 2001 which is widely used both in Europe and elsewhere has been updated and published this month as MoReq2.
MoReq2 provides an update of the current specification to take account of adoption of new technology and legislation and has been extended to cover related Content and Document technologies which have been widely adopted over the past few years. Also testing scripts have been provided which will be the base for the introduction of assessment centres for suppliers to submit their ERM software for evaluation.
The development process was overseen by the European Commission working closely with the DLM Forum and drafts were reviewed by DLM Forum experts at key stages in the development. Martin Waldron of In-Form Consult was a member of the DLM expert team.
The resulting document is 240 pages, with the Metadata model appendix published separately – 89 pages and made up of 179 elements. There is also separately published an accompanying MoReq2 Test Scripts.
MoReq2 is a very comprehensive and wide ranging document covering requirements for a range of organisations. The user however can be daunted by the very size and complexity of the document. The result is the document has received a mixed reception from both end users and suppliers.
In-Form Consult are planning a series of Moreq2 workshops to help users distil MoReq2 to a form that can be applied in their environment. These workshops will begin in June and running through to the autumn.
More details of the workshops can be obtained from Martin Waldron In-Form Consult Tel. 01923 283694 e-mail martin.waldron@inform-consult.com.
